Narrative

At approximately 0830 EST on 1 October 1953, a civilian observer from Bay City, Michigan sighted an unknown flying object approximately five miles south of Harrisville, Michigan. The object was described as round and highly reflective, in a turn from heading 270 degrees to 225 degrees at about 20 degrees above the horizon. No noise or exhaust trail detected. Object was visible for 3-4 seconds before being lost from sight. Two flights plus one tow ship of F-86 type aircraft were airborne in the area at 20,000 feet firing gunnery; local radar reported no contact except with gunnery flights. Witness had reported a similar sighting on 28 September 1953 about 13 miles distant.
