Narrative

On 8 August 1956 at 0800Z, a 37-year-old prison guard at the Detroit House of Corrections on GOC post in Northville, Michigan observed a round football-sized white object that changed to dark red and intermittently disappeared and reappeared. The observer believed he heard the sound of an engine. The object moved southwest at about cloud height (clouds at 1,000 broken) and was still in sight when the report was made. 1/LT Senior Director suggested possibly the planet Mars shining through a temperature inversion or lighted weather balloons.
