Narrative

On 10 November 1954, civilians traveling in a vehicle near Townsend MA observed a spherical yellow-orange basketball-sized object flying in front of their vehicle at approximately right angle to their course. Object between 10-20 degrees of horizon, in approximately level flight or slightly climbing at estimated 200-400 ft altitude. Pronounced tail of flame extending rearward. Disappeared behind trees lining the road after 2-3 seconds. Conclusion: strong possibility jet aircraft in a glide with reduced power.
