ATSS-UFOB-89-56 / IFR 1-56 — 1956-03-17 — Folsom Prison, California (San Francisco area)
Narrative
At 0324Z on 17 March 1956, GOC observers at Folsom Prison, California (PJ4941) sighted a wing-shaped object the size of a B-29 wing, black in color with red and white lights and a jet-like swishing sound. The object came from the southeast, made one orbit over Folsom Prison, then headed northwest and faded from sight in approximately four minutes. Estimated altitude was 3,000 feet. Aerojet Manufacturing Company was suggested as possibly causing the noise or experimenting. Possibility of a low-flying aircraft with a green light burned out was noted. The 4602D AISS concluded the sighting was probably generated by an aircraft.
