TR-1-52 — 1952-03-04 — Sea of Japan, approximately 15 miles west of Ashiya Air Base
Narrative
At 0401Z on 4 March 1952, the pilot and crew of a C-54 type aircraft of the 53rd Troop Carrier Squadron sighted an unidentified flying object while returning to Ashiya Air Base over the Sea of Japan. 1st Lt. H.J. Weed (pilot), 2d Lt T.G. Camidge (co-pilot), and S/Sgt T. Dendy (engineer) observed the object heading 290 degrees at an estimated 10,000 feet altitude, 15 miles distant. The object moved at terrific speed on a horizontal plane and gradually faded from sight. Observation lasted 1.5 to 2 minutes. Lt. Weed stated the object was definitely not a jet aircraft.
