TR-22-53E — 1952-12-06 — Over 40 deg 00 min N, 74 deg 30 min W (southern New Jersey)
Narrative
On 6 December 1952 at 1800-2005 EST over southern New Jersey, USAF pilots and radar observers from 2nd and 5th Fighter-Interceptor Squadrons at McGuire AFB tracked an unidentified object. Lt Robert F. Otondo (pilot, 5th FIS) initially observed a round light of varying intensity in white, red, and amber. The object would have indicated normal aircraft pattern but observation was inconclusive; chase was conducted at 22,000 feet over the position 30 minutes W and 5 minutes N. Other observers included 2/Lt Howard R Perry, 2/Lt Edward D Smith, 2/Lt Charles W Barter, 2/Lt George L Shulstad, and Pvt William P Manahan. Climb was performed at Mach for several attempts; no other return noted on radar.
