Narrative

On 25 October 1956 at 0050Z and 23 October at 1220Z, Mr. Robert Sutton, Civil Defense Director of Benzie County, Michigan, observed a single oval or egg-shaped aluminum object approximately 100 feet long with a row of blue lights along the bottom and a pointed nose, at Beulah, Michigan. Object made hissing sound and gave impression of a boat hull approaching person. Observed via ground visual and 30-power telescope for 2-5 minutes. Object at 60 degrees elevation, 16,000-18,000 feet, moved vertically out of sight to ENE very fast. Observer positive it was not the Aurora Borealis; sightings confirmed by at least four other persons in Benzie County area. Reported to Michigan Civil Defense. 2nd Lt Ted W. Wuerthner and T/Sgt Robert G. Nickerson sent to investigate.
