Narrative

Between 1930 and 2400 EST on 30 May 1956 near Homestead AFB, Florida, M/Sgt James Wood and A/2C Walter O'Rourke observed an object north of the air base. The object hovered, increased and decreased altitude and velocity between 50 and 3000 feet approximately 2 to 5 miles north of the base, and was observed flying over the main runway. One observer stated the light burned for 3 minutes and was then extinguished; the other observer reported the object remained in the area for approximately 2.5 hours. Ground-visual with binoculars. Weather: dark and clear, 4000 ft ceiling, 3/10 visibility, scattered clouds. Asst Wing Intel Officer could not identify due to reported absence of engine and propeller noise.
