AISS-UFOB-1955 — 1955-04-19 — Decatur, Georgia (approximately 8 miles east of Atlanta)
Narrative
At approximately 19/0108Z April 1955, the source was standing in the driveway of his home at Decatur, Georgia, looking west through a pair of toy binoculars when he observed a white light in the sky traveling slowly. He watched it fly into a cloud bank and continued watching for fifteen minutes but it did not reappear. Investigation noted that the Atlanta Weather Bureau released weather balloons at approximately 18/2530Z (one and a half hours prior), and Maxwell AFB had released a six-foot diameter balloon whose wind-projected position would place it in the sighting area at approximately 19/0005Z.
