Narrative

On 1 August 1956 at 0152Z, a civilian and an Air National Guard airman in Smyrna, Georgia (4 miles south of Dobbins AFB) sighted a single fast-moving bright white light slightly larger than a star. Object moved in a straight course from 15 degrees above the north horizon to out-of-sight over the south horizon in approximately 62 seconds. Reported via 1476th Flight Service Squadron Maxwell AFB. A B-47 callsign 'Texas 53' was operating Atlanta radar bomb plot in the area, and a moving spotlight at Dobbins AFB was identified as potentially visible from Smyrna.
