On 30 August 1955 between 1100 and 1300 hours (day time, clear with no clouds), four men in a canyon north 20 mi and east 25 mi of Cedar City, Utah, allegedly witnessed a 'flying saucer' at approximately 80,000 ft between Cedar City and St. George. The interviewee described the object as square, silver, kite/box-like, and stationary for two minutes. The observer claimed a 'mental conversation' with the object and that another witness also received mental telepathic waves; the other two witnesses denied this. The 'Moby Dick' high-altitude balloon project (MDH-97) was over the area at the time. Conclusion: probably balloon.
