1956-10-07 — 4.5 miles west of Brainerd Field, Connecticut
Narrative
At 07/2330Z October 1956, a 28-year-old civilian GOC observer 4.5 miles west of Brainerd Field, Connecticut sighted six circular objects in V and T formations. The objects changed color from green to red and back, emitted a high-pitched hum, moved vertically up and down at 36 degrees elevation and 36 degrees azimuth. Visible 2.5 minutes via ground-visual with 7-power binoculars. Two F-86Ds were diverted from a routine training flight to investigate but reported no visual contact. Radar contact negative. Three RC-121 aircraft were in the area. Senior Director Lt John J. Huelsman believed aircraft and objects were likely the same.
