Narrative

On approximately 17 September 1956 at dusk, Ground Observer Corps observers at Vincennes, Indiana observed a single egg-shaped silver object estimated at 30 feet in diameter. Object was first observed three miles east at 5,000 ft, then three miles south at 3,000 ft, before visual sighting was lost. Total observation 5 minutes. Weather clear, surface wind south at 8 knots, visibility 12-15 miles. Report by 782nd AC&W Sq, Rockville AFS, IN. Squadron intelligence officer's conclusion: possible balloon.
