Narrative
On 14 May 1956 at 1400Z, the USAF Thunderbirds flight team, led by Maj. J. W. Broughton, sighted an unidentified object while in flight over the Winston-Salem area. The object was at approximately 70 degrees azimuth and 25 degrees elevation from the observers' aircraft at 30,000 ft. It had no apparent movement during the major portion of the sighting but appeared to slightly change position just before visual contact was lost. Object was not picked up on radar to his knowledge. Investigation was authorized.
