Narrative

On 20 May 1956 at 1323Z (1129 PDT), a retired civilian observer in San Luis Obispo, California sighted a round red glowing object moving slowly southwest at very high altitude. The object faded into the distance over five minutes. Ground-visual only. Two F fighters scrambled from Van Nuys AFB at 1849Z reported no object sighted in the area or along the direction track. 1st Lt Arthur J. Hartmann, Senior Director of Delta Crew, had no comment on the reported object.
