Narrative

On 20 July 1955 at 0100Z (dusk) a cylindrical, yellowish-orange object was reported near Monroeville, Pennsylvania traveling north at high altitude. The object had no visible wings or empennage. The 71st FIS Intelligence Officer who allegedly made the initial NCOIC report denied doing so. One USAF F-86D was on local flight at the time of sighting, and scattered small puffy clouds were in the area. No balloons released. Concluded possibly F-86D aircraft or sunlight on clouds.
