Narrative

On 11 October 1954 at 2180 EST, an LCDR with sea navigational experience observed a round, white object with a brilliant blue glow flying over Alexandria, Virginia. The object's course maneuvered through approximately 350 degrees; azimuth at first sighting was 70 degrees, then declined to 18 degrees. No speed or altitude could be estimated. Weather was clear. The visual ground observation without optical equipment lasted 28 seconds; the object disappeared in a straight-line motion. No aircraft were observed in the area at the time. Reported to Air Defense Command via ATIC.
