Narrative

Between 0210Z and 0229Z on 13 February 1956, a Ground Observer Corps post supervisor near Aripeka, Florida (NNW of Tampa) observed a round object resembling an auto tire or large hubcap with very bright red and yellow rotating lights. Observed for approximately 10 minutes at very low altitude, about eight miles west of the GOC post, using binoculars. Object either landed or went beyond the horizon. Did not paint on 660th AC&W radar; Navy had no blimps in area. Probably aircraft or weather balloon per investigation. SAC reported a B-47 and KC-97 were in the area making simulated runs.
