AISS-UFOB-328-55 / SMRBP-9-500-E — 1955-09-13 — Palmdale, California (Air Force Plant 42)
Narrative
At 1610Z on 15 September 1955 at Air Force Plant 42, Palmdale, California, observers heard a sound and looked up to see a single flat-topped, rounded-ended object at 270-degree azimuth and 45-degree elevation. The object was first seen heading west at 4,800-5,840 feet MSL in a gradual left climbing turn to south then southeast, very slow (estimated 100 mph). It produced exhaust blasts and a constant deep undertone like diesel roar with overtones like afterburner roar. Disappearance was gradual after 10-15 minutes. Investigation by Flt 1-C checked with Edwards AFB for experimental aircraft tests but no possible cause for phenomenon was known. Resolved as possibly aircraft.
