Narrative

On 28 September 1956 at 0155Z (night), an electrician at Hancock, Maine looking for aircraft from Bangor observed a long tapered glowing object with lead light and rear light at 45 degrees elevation, 120 azimuth. Object started ENE, swung around to NE slowly. Observation duration 0135Z-0150Z. Used military 6x30 binoculars. Weather: cloudy fair visibility. 1/Lt Gordon D Smith (Senior Director) made no comment. Checked Dow Tower (no KC-97 or aircraft using Seal Island Range) and Brunswick (no Navy aircraft). Probable cause: none determined.
