Narrative
On 31 July 1956 at 0525Z, a CAP member and former Navy air crewman observed an object glowing yellow that burst into brilliant red. Object at 15-10 degrees from true north, performed violent tight maneuvers in a very small area for 1-1.5 hours near Norton AFB area. Disappeared when observer went to turn on CAP radio. Capt W.D. Balser, senior controller, noted that elevation of sighting could possibly be vehicle headlights on a mountain road or crest, given 8-mile visibility in smoke and haze.
