Narrative
At 09/0455Z September 1955 near Cedar Rapids, Iowa (GEOREF FIPM 2458), GOC observer Steve Sedlacek, a 20-year-old photographer at KCRG television, sighted an unidentified flying object described as cigar-shaped, approximately 25 feet long and bright orange in color. The object was observed at about 25 degrees elevation and 25 degrees azimuth, flew east and faded over approximately three minutes. Weather was broken cloud cover with thunderstorms in area. Local sources verified no balloons released, no radar contact.
