Narrative

Around 19 May 1953 in East St. Louis, Illinois, four juvenile observers (Dennis Gwaltney age 4, Bill Gwaltney age 12, John Barrett age 12, and Ted Randall age 13) observed an aluminum-colored disk-shaped object with a raised dome. The object appeared from the north approaching observers, hovered for a few seconds, dipped toward observers and disappeared with great speed to the northeast. The sky was cloudy but the object appeared in a clear space between cloud formations. Severe thunderstorms were recorded in the area preceding and following the sighting. No definite conclusions were reached.
