Narrative
On 2 August 1954 at 0313Z, observers near Utica, Michigan reported a round bright white object descending from approximately 1500-2000 ft to below the horizon over 1 hour 38 minutes. The 661st ACWRON dispatched aircraft and investigators 1/Lt Dorsey and S/Sgt Morrison to Utica. They determined the object to be a bright star or planet intensified several times its size by atmospheric inversion layers; apparent motion was attributed to inversion-layer fluctuations and earth rotation.
