Narrative

Captain Clutter, while on a routine F-100D flight at 26,000 feet and 500 knots ground speed, noticed a blue flame at approximately his altitude. The object appeared to be moving in a northwesterly direction and gradually descending from about 4 degrees up to 20 degrees below level. The duration of the observation was approximately four seconds, after which the object either flew out of sight or disintegrated without any visual evidence of an explosion. The pilot was rated as reliable but no corroborating reports came in through regular intelligence channels.
