On 7 November 1954 at 0105Z, a civilian observer in front of his home on a Nashville, Tennessee street observed a round flaming-white object the size of half a golf ball at arm's length. Object trailed fire and smoke about twice the diameter of the object. Observer was glancing out a car window with window rolled down. Object at approximately 40 degrees elevation heading north-northwest in level flight path, then seemed to vanish into thin air. Visible 3-4 seconds. Weather clear, visibility good. Object seemed closer than the stars and could not have been a shooting star. Reported via 316th Troop Carrier Group from Stewart AFB, Tennessee.
