On 1 October 1957 at approximately 1900 hours (2300Z), John Karcher and Lee Plunkett observed an elongated sphere/cigar-shaped object from a farm near Rochester, Pennsylvania. The object was 200-300 feet long with three stripes (green/yellow/red) running its entire length, with a bright blue-white exhaust from the aft end. Estimated 8-10 miles distant, 3000-5000 ft altitude, traveling at 5-10 mph from NW-to-SE for ~15 minutes, then returned SE-to-NW ~10 minutes later for another ~15 minutes.
