AF 553206 — 1953-04-19 — Fort Davis, Texas (between Ft. Davis and Marfa)
Narrative
On 19 April 1953 at about 1:20 PM near Ft. Davis, Texas, civilian A. V. Chapin observed an oblong amber-colored object that initially appeared like a floating balloon west of a vapor trail. The object descended, hovered like a buzzard, then swung in an arc toward the north with great acceleration, revealing short pointed wings. It accelerated to uncanny speed (estimated mile per 2 seconds), changed directions slightly several times as it became a speck, and disappeared over the Davis mountains in about 45 seconds. All amber color; no sound, no vapor trail. Letter forwarded to USAF intelligence; CAA noted jet aircraft with swept-back wings operated in vicinity.
