Narrative
On 18 July 1956 at 0230Z, T/Sgt Robert E. Nelson, senior controller at Westover AFB approach control, observed an unidentified radar target on CPN 18-A radar. UFO first sighted 30 miles south of CEF, tracked at approximately 360 degrees to a point 30 miles north of CEF at speed 2400 mph. Target made a 180-degree right turn until 15 miles NE of CEF, then turned southwest-bound and disappeared 4 miles NE of CEF. Target made 180-degree turn in less than 6 seconds with rapid speed changes. Major McIntyre (ADC) opined that the sighting was possibly caused by 'cut bank effect.' Weather clear, calm.
