Narrative

On 4 December 1956 at 0010Z, Thomas T. Hanna (AC-1) at the Key West Naval Air Station Control Tower, Florida, observed a bright flash of white light. Object was at 1 degree elevation above horizon, azimuth 090 degrees from Key West NAS, with no movement, only a flash that faded out within a few seconds. Observed via ground visual with no optical aids. Weather clear with 15-mile visibility. All military bases in southern Florida checked for possible flare drop or other mission - all negative. Coast Guard, USAF Air Rescue and 35th Air Division notified.
