Narrative

At 1153Z 2 October 1954 near Scott AFB IL, M/Sgt Borman observed a round pale blue object the size of a baseball at angle of elevation 15 degrees and azimuth due west. Object appeared to head toward observer's automobile, then began a vertical climb until disappearance. Out of vision during vertical climb after 5 seconds. Concluded possibly the afterburner of a jet aircraft.
