Narrative
A civilian astronomer observed an unidentified object in clear atmosphere with visibility to the 6th magnitude over Arlington, Virginia. The object initially had the appearance of a slow-moving meteor but its course was not straight: it described an approximate 290-degree turn to the right and disappeared toward north-northeast. Speed appeared to fluctuate moderately, particularly indicating some pulling force. Complete absence of sound was particularly characteristic. The observer ruled out meteor, bolide, and conventional aircraft.
