Narrative
On 27 November 1955 at 0100Z near Riverdale, Maryland (about 1 mile east of Hyattsville), a woman observer was attracted by what seemed an unusually bright star. Through binoculars it appeared conical with shredded parachute appearance, reddish to whitish glow, 1/20 the diameter of the binoculars field. Object was southeast, about 15 degrees above horizon, slowly rising and moving in southerly direction. Observation began at 0100Z and was still visible at 0320Z (over 2 hours). Calm at surface, clear, 7 miles visibility. AFOIN Duty Officer had no comments.
