Narrative
Japan Air Lines flight 1628 (B-747), departed Reykjavik Iceland, en route to Tokyo via Anchorage, was accompanied by unknown air traffic from the Alaska/Canadian border south. Captain Kenjyu Terauchi, First Officer Takonori Tamefuji, and Flight Engineer Yoshio Tsukuda visually contacted the object near Fairbanks. Onboard color radar showed target at 7 miles. ATC picked up target which broke off 40 nautical miles north of Talkeetna. Radio received static only in VHF mode. Interview conducted at Anchorage International Airport on the evening of 17 November 1986 by FAA.
