24-9 — 1949-04-24 — three miles north of Arrey, New Mexico
Narrative
On 24 April 1949 at about 1030 MST, C.B. Moore Jr. and four Navy enlisted men from White Sands Proving Ground were conducting a pibal wind run when they observed a rapidly moving whitish ellipsoid object. The object was first seen drifting east rapidly at 5 degrees/second, then continued on a north heading. After tracking, the object held azimuth constant and began increasing elevation. Total observation time approximately 60 seconds. Moore was an experienced atmospheric researcher who concluded the object was not a balloon and was some distance away.
