Narrative

On 15 August 1955 at 0150Z, 1st Lt Eben W., an aircraft controller and intelligence officer at the 739th ACWRON in Wadena AFSTA, Minnesota, observed a hat-shaped, white object half the size of the moon. The object did not drift with the wind but seemed to move against the wind, then climbed rapidly out of sight after 44 minutes. Observation was ground visual via 80x50 binoculars. The duration and climb-out characteristics led headquarters to opine the observer possibly saw a balloon, though winds did not substantiate the conclusion.
