ATSS-UFOB-? (Dec 55) — 1955-12-17 — Red Oak, Iowa (also seen over Kansas City, Missouri)
Narrative
On 18 December 1955 at 0122Z, multiple observers reported a UFO over Red Oak, Iowa described as a streak in the sky with a big flash. Object was dime-sized, red white and blue. Object reportedly almost hit a light plane. Eight minutes prior, a UFOB was sighted over Kansas City, Missouri (front page coverage). Braniff Airways pilot (physics professor) reported seeing a meteorite at the time of the Red Oak sighting; he determined the composition from the color as it burned - of nickel. Det 2 concluded both sightings were one and the same; sighting is astronomical, probably a nickel meteorite.
