Narrative

At 0030Z on 18 January 1956 near Walkill, New York (near Stewart AFB), a former USAF Sgt now CBS warehouse employee observed a very bright light that occasionally twinkled, single object, that appeared like a very bright star but moved. The object went 500 to 1000 ft to NW, then 1000 to 2000 ft to NW, with up-and-down and side-to-side motion, before moving to the NW and sinking beyond the horizon over 5 minutes. A T-33 aircraft was in area at the time. EADF intel officer suggested possibly afterburners of aircraft in area, though deemed doubtful.
