Narrative

At 13/0630Z August 1956 (dawn, 02:30 EDT) over Staunton, Virginia, a civilian researcher observed an amorphous object resembling a blimp's gondola. The object showed red lights on the beams and white lights between, was at four o'clock high from prone position at 30-35 degrees elevation, and moved in straight and level flight east-southeast for 10 minutes before observer stopped watching. Ground-visual only. Vincent J. Sherry, Jr., 1/Lt USAF concluded possibly a weather balloon lighted to be spotted with a theodolite.
