Just before stopping, Sgt Hallstrom made a motion for me to come over to the barracks. When I got there he told me to quickly turn out the lights on the vehicle and he pointed out a bright red object. To me it looked like a fire as it was bright reddish orange. On my return I noticed through the trees in a sourth-westerly direction what I believed to be a forest fire. Upon noticing this, I drew it to the attention of A/2c Lysakowski. My first thought was that it was the moon, but I changed my mind after viewing it for a few seconds. The object was stationary for a minute and disappeared for a few seconds.
